Metal Sheath Heater Technologies

Durex Industries is a recognized manufacturer and supplier of electric heaters for a variety of industries worldwide. From cast heaters for military waste disposal to the most advanced thermal heaters used in satellites.  Metal heater assemblies encapsulate resistive heater elements, insulation, and sensors in a robust metal sheath that is chemically and thermally compatible with its working environment.  Durex offers a comprehensive array of electric heater thermal solutions to suit virtually any aerospace, defense and security application.

Cartridge Heaters

----Cartridge-Aerospace-Defense-SecurityMagnum™ cartridge heaters are swaged designs, made for use in applications where high watt density, high temperatures and long service life are critical. The swaged construction produces a highly compacted cartridge heater that resists shock and vibration, while providing for maximum element life through efficient transfer heating.  Sizes range from miniature 1/8" to 1" diameter in varying lengths.  Low voltage options are commonly used in aerospace applications.   Typical cartridge heater applications include aircraft pitot tubes and turbine engine heaters.

Cast In Heaters

----Cast Heaters-Aerospace-Defense-SecurityDurex cast-in heaters are custom designed, and depending on the application, can be molded in either aluminum or bronze.  Robust military applications such as waste disposal that need high temperatures and robust solutions benefit from cast-in heater technology.

Our foundry's production capabilities range from large quantities of simple cast platen heaters to complex heated machine parts with unmatched temperature uniformity. We accomplish this variety precisely because all our work is done in-house.

Circulation Heaters

Circulation Heater-Aerospace-Defense-SecurityCirculation heaters, also referred to as "in-line heaters," are used for heating flowing liquids and gases. Non-pressurized or highly pressurized fluids can be heated very effectively using either direct or indirect circulation heating. A wide variety of standard designs and custom engineered power ratings, sizes, flow capacities and options are available to fulfill most any application needs.

Direct immersion circulation heaters are powerful in-line heaters constructed as a screw plug or flange-mounted tubular heater assembly installed into a mating tank or vessel. Inlet and outlet nozzles in the vessel permit liquid or gas flow into and out of the circulation vessel.  Typical applications on naval vessels would include boiler heaters in kitchens and in-line circulation heaters for critical fluids.

Coil (Cable) Heaters

----Coil-Cable-Aerospace-Defense-SecurityDurex coil heaters feature continuous operating temperatures up to 1200°F (649°C). Rapid heating and cooling occur due to the low mass construction. All heating elements are sealed from contamination and the stainless steel sheath provides maximum corrosion resistance. An optional internal thermocouple may be utilized for over temperature control.  Coil heater solutions utilize small diameter sheath assemblies for applications requiring uniform heating.  Applications range from aerospace de-icing to ion heating in mass spectrometers.

Duct Heaters

----Duct Heaters-Aerospace-Defense-SecurityRugged Durex duct air heaters are well suited for the needs of many heavy duty military applications. Incoloy® tubular heater elements are designed for long life and durability. High tensile strength cages support heater elements in larger, higher temperature units to ensure proper performance. The optimal sheath material and maximum allowable watt densities are used to minimize size, weight, and footprint.  Typical military and industrial applications would be indoor and outdoor freeze protection and comfort.
