In high temperature and corrosive environments, noble metals, also called platinum, thermocouple probe assemblies are designed for greater robustness and accuracy than can normally be achieved with base metal thermocouples.
Platinum thermocouple temperature sensors, most commonly ANSI types R, S, and B, are precious metal elements (noble metals). The platinum thermocouples provide long, stable service where standard base-metal thermocouple calibrations are inadequate. Elements can be supplied in a variety of protective assembly designs. These include bare elements, ceramic protection tubes with secondary insulators, silicon carbide protection tubes, or compacted mineral insulated (MgO) cable designs.
Typical industrial applications for platinum thermocouples include ultra-pure semiconductor vacuum chambers, R&D testing, rocket and diesel engine testing.
The TSPT style thermocouple temperature sensor assembly features a noble metal (platinum) thermocouple and single ceramic protection tube. A variety of process connection and terminal housing options are available.
The TDPT style thermocouple temperature sensor assembly features a noble metal thermocouple element with a primary and secondary ceramic protection tube for additional protection in extreme environments.
