RS style sanitary resistance temperature detectors are commonly used in the food and dairy industries. The sanitary fittings are welded to the stainless steel sheath and polished to meet 3-A Sanitary Council Standards. The highly polished finish prevents the growth of bacteria or other corrosive accumulation that might otherwise develop on standard RTD assembly connections.
There are various fitting sizes and styles available. Care must be taken to ensure that the correct fitting is specified. In addition to the sanitary fittings, typical RTD sanitary temperature sensor probes are equipped with an FDA compliant thermoplastic head, which has a gasket and is suitable for wash down applications. Various element types and wiring configurations are available.
