Foam Insulated Silicone Heaters for Freeze ProtectionAn original equipment manufacturer (OEM) had a freeze and condensation prevention battery heating application and requested assistance from Durex Industries. The OEM had previously tried heating the outside of the battery with traditional battery heaters but were having heater failure due to damage during periodic maintenance. In addition, mechanical thermostat failures resulted in frequent heater assembly replacement.For the application, Durex Industries custom designed a foam insulated silicone heater product. This flexible heater design would easily wrap around the battery, like a blanket, to help with freeze and condensation issues. The silicone rubber heater design also allowed for a replaceable thermostat that was located in a pocket on the side of the foam. This solution simplified battery maintenance and significantly reduced the cost of ownership.
