Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing processes. The ME provides engineering leadership to manufacturing by supporting process efficiency improvements through the design and deployment of manufacturing assists, automated/semi-automated equipment designs and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies.
Principal Activities
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions, process flows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency/repeatability in the manufacturing process.
- Utilize the ERP system for all aspects of the position including document control.
- Work closely with the quality assurance team to establish quality standards, conduct process audits and implement corrective actions to maintain adherence to quality requirements.
- Collaborate with the procurement team and suppliers to identify suitable materials and procedures for specific projects by considering cost, availability and performance requirements.
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes, identify areas for improvement and implement optimized procedures to increase efficiency, reduce waste and lower production costs.
- Develop and oversee the design and implementation of specialized tooling and fixtures to enhance production capabilities and ensure consistent quality.
- As required create CNC programs for benders, robots, CNC machining centers.
Key Accountabilities
- Contributing member of the MRB team to reduce scrap and rework through root cause analysis problem solving.
- Drive labor cost savings by improving processes that lead to productivity gains.
- Critical to the development and sustainment of the work center labor standards and the analysis of actual labor applied.
- Lead continuous improvement events and projects to develop the overall operational involvement in process methodology improvement.
- Reduction of downtime by providing technical support to the plant floor by troubleshooting manufacturing process equipment.
- Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with health and safety regulations and implement safety initiatives to create a safe working environment.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Candidate Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- BS Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering highly preferred but experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a discrete manufacturing process environment.
- Experience in assembly, CNC machining, sawing, testing, heat treating, annealing and bending of various metal shapes and materials (SS, aluminum, brass).
- Lean Manufacturing experience. Solid root cause analysis and critical thinking.
- ISO knowledge and exposure.
- AutoCAD/DraftSight and SolidWorks experience and ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Plant layout and product flow understanding.
- Apply principles of critical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge in the MS Office Suite and specifically in Excel and MS Project.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems beneficial with MS Dynamics 365 a plus.
- LSS Green Belt a plus

The work environment includes working in an office and production environment; may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, heat and moderate noise from machinery while on the production floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasional visits to areas with high noise levels or other physical hazards will require the use of personal protective equipment. Safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes are required on the production floor.
Work requires meeting performance deadlines and being exact or highly accurate; requires face-to-face interaction with individuals or teams, negotiating, reasoning and influencing others in a group or team using a participative management style with well-developed interpersonal skills.
This position is also an ‘onsite’ position and will require the employee to physically be located in our Cary, IL Plant.
